atest Team to register in the Indian premier league. This team is owned by Famous Malayalam actor Mohanlal and Famous Director Priyadarshan.
Both Mohanlal and priyadarshan were friends from child hood and “city cricketers” were the name of their local team.
They have approched Shashi Tharoor the union minister for External Affairs to be the Chairman of the team. Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has given the full support for the team.
Now they need to contact BCCI to get the approval. If they get the approval then in 2010 IPL T20 there will be one more team to participate.
Some NRI’s and corporates are willing to help the team. The project will cost more than 200 Crores and the team will be having a ground near Kovalam.

Hey Good Name suggestion. But I think they have already selected the name as “City Cricketers” . Waiting to see their first appearance in IPL 2010 !!
During the 1st installment of the IPL in 2008, me and a couple of my friends from Kerala came up with the idea of having a Kerala IPL team with the name ‘Travancore Tuskers’.
We even mapped out a plan to form the team with a list of players who we thought would make up a balanced team. We put down the names of big NRI business men who we would go to for Sponsorship. Our only problem was that we didn’t have the influence or contacts to get our idea out to these prospective owners and sponsors.
The name of the team ‘City Cricketers’ is really really bland and unoriginal.
I humble request to team owners Mohanlal and Priyadarshan is to reconsider the team name. The team name is something that gives the team some character and substance, and if you got a team called City Cricketers, it most likely that your gonna be taken seriously.
If team is going to be representing Kerala in the IPL, its got to have a name which reflects the state’s cultural and historical elements.
Ya its a good suggestion to change the name of the team. The name “city cricketers ” is not at all a catching name. But i think they are giving this name because it was the name of the local club where Mohanlal and Priyadarshan used to play when they where at college.
Let’s hope Mohanlal and Priyan will come up with our expectations and this team will feature in the 2010 IPL tournament.
